Pastoral Care

St Andrew’s is known for its warmth and friendliness from both staff and students.  As a small school, every single child is known, loved and nurtured as part of the St Andrew's family. 

We firmly believe that every child has the right to feel safe and supported at school. We support our broad and balanced curriculum by ensuring there is a supportive and caring environment. Our approach to behaviour management is underpinned by principles of therapeutic and restorative approaches.

Form Groups and Houses

It is important to us that all students feel a sense of belonging at St Andrew's. Students who feel that they belong thrive socially and academically. A key factor in building that sense of belonging and community is our house system, throughout the year there are a diverse range of opportunities for students to compete in house competition alongside raising money for the house Charity.

Each child is in a form that is within one of our six houses. Each house is linked to charity that has been chosen by the students that is suitable to their house. These are:

• Attenborough
• King
• Curie
• Johnson
• Mandela
• Teresa

The charities are:

• Ferring Country Centre – Training and experience for people with learning disabilities
• Turning Tides – Endling local homelessness
• Blind Veterans based in Rustington – helping vision impaired ex-service men and women
• Safe in Sussex – Support for people affected by domestic violence
• SID Youth – Supporting young people
• Worthing Food Foundation – A non-referral food bank

The Houses have half termly competitions that build towards their House total score for the academic year. Competitions range in type and activity, giving everyone in the house opportunities to enter and represent their house.

Graduation

At St Andrew's we recognise that success will look different for each child. However, success occurs as the consequence of students effort and resilience over time. Therefore, it is important that we celebrate students not just for outcomes but recognise and celebrate the good habits along the way. At St Andrew's we celebrate students in a variety of ways.

Graduation

The graduation criteria are based around the aims of STA:

To help grow individuals who are:

• ambitious, capable learners,
• enterprising, creative contributors,
• healthy, confident and ethically informed citizens,
• wise & adaptable.

We strive to keep literacy at the heart of our curriculum, as this is the core of being able to access education. We also believe that students need to be onsite learning to fully benefit from their education and hence we are adding an attendance section.

Students gain:

• Bronze if they achieve at least 4 areas at bronze level,
• Silver if they achieve at least 5 areas at silver level,
• Gold if they achieve 5 areas at gold level,
• Gold* if they achieve all 6 areas at gold level.
